Youth 3-on-3 starts Monday, May14

The spring/summer 3-on-3 cross-ice session begins Monday, May 14 and runs for six weeks. Games will last from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., though some may last until 8:30. To register, email Marla Edwards at marla.edwards@iowacityhockey.com. Cost is $60.

New board meets, appoints officers

The new ICH board of directors held its first meeting with several new members this week and appointed two officers. The board meets regularly the third Monday of every month at 6:30 p.m. in the community room at the Coral Ridge Ice Arena. You are invited to attend.

Learn to Play Hockey for adults

Coach Justin Nicol is holding a six-week hockey skills session for adults for those parents who want to learn hockey skills or develop the skills they have, so they can help their player get better, too. Ice sessions will focus on the fundamentals of skating, shooting, passing and puck handling. Classes will be held every Monday night from 8:30 to 9:45 p.m. starting April 2 at Coral Ridge Arena. Learn to Play Hockey for kids

Coral Ridge Arena will again hold a Learn to Play Hockey class for kids just starting out in the game. The classes are appropriate for children between the ages of 4 and 8 who are just learning to play hockey or who are first-year players who want to continue to develop their skills. Registration costs $75, and a full set of equipment is available for $85, which is refundable if you do not want to keep the equipment after the program has completed. Classes will be held from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. for eight weeks starting April 2. More information is available at http://www.coralridgeice.com/hockey/learn.

Association exploring possibility of adding bantam team

The Association board is exploring the possibility of adding a team at the bantam level for the 2012-13 season. If you have a player who is interested in playing for an Iowa City-Coralville bantam next season, or may be interested in future seasons, please contact board president Mark Greb at mark.greb@plazaaa.com.

Blizzard Squirt 2 – 2nd place finish

The Iowa City Blizzard Squirt 2 team finished 2nd in the Squirt C division of the Cedar Rapids tournament this weekend! Their hard fought games included a Friday night TIE against Cedar Rapids, LOSS to Des Moines Jr Chops, and back to back WINS on the final day against Waterloo and Mason City.

Coach Nicol visits Russia

One more thanks to all the volunteers who turned out in force to help the Holiday Face-off Tournament run so smoothly. We received many positive comments from visiting teams and are proud of the reputation we’re developing for putting on a consistently strong and entertaining tournament every year.
